On Tuesday 5^th December a group of musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra came to play to all the students and staff at Love Lane.

The performance was very lively, active and involved the whole audience by playing musical games and familiar pieces of music including Rimsky- Korsokoff’s Flight of the Bumble Bee, and The Dance of the Knights from Romeo and Juliet, better known as the theme music from The Apprentice.

The leader of the orchestra used bean bags to demonstrate the skills of the musicians, as every time he threw the bean bag, the musicians played, which made us all laugh. Then the orchestra played In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg, one note at a time, in turn, dropping out if they got the note wrong or paused too long. We were impressed with how professional and talented they are and they showed us that music is fun. The instruments played included the violin, piccolo, flute, trumpet, trombone, bassoon, double bass, clarinet while the percussionist played a whole range of instruments including the drums, marimba.  James of Colchester Class was very lucky to be invited to play the triangle with the group and I am sure he would love the chance to play with them again in the future.

On 10^th March 2018 the whole orchestra is appearing at the Hexagon Theatre in Reading. I would strongly recommend that you book tickets to go before they sell out. If you would like further information please contact Ali Watkinson in the music department or Becki in reception at the main site.
